Design Lead at SumUp
โฑ This portfolio showcases a glimpse of my role as a Product Design Lead II at SumUp. Iโd be happy to provide further details or expand on any of the cases featured here. Feel free to reach out for more information.ย
SumUp Invoices - Merchant App
My role was to integrate invoicing into the SumUp ecosystem, beginning with the SumUp mobile app, the primary platform used by small merchants. To accomplish this, I collaborated with a Product Manager, a Lead Mobile Developer, and a team of 2 iOS Developers and 2 Android Developers.
When we launched the MVP we conducted user research and gotย an overall NPS score of 35, a portion of merchants were convinced to adopt SumUp Invoices MVP. 63.11% of the respondents gave the score because it is fast and simple to use.

SumUp Invoices - Standalone App
Following the success of Invoices within the SumUp merchant app, we decided to launch a standalone SumUp Invoices app tailored specifically for power users.ย To accomplish this, I collaborated with a Product Manager, a Lead Mobile Developer, and a team of 2 iOS Developers and 2 Android Developers.

SumUp Accounting - Beta
After gathering insights from our invoicing customers and SumUp merchants, we saw an opportunity to introduce an accounting product into the SumUp ecosystem. To validate the concept, we launched a Beta version to test the product and gather feedback before a full rollout.

Debitoor migration into SumUp

The background
Debitoor was founded in 2012 with a mission to help small businesses thrive by simplifying invoicing and accounting, allowing them to focus on what they love.
In 2017, Debitoor joined SumUp, a company with a similar vision: empowering small business owners to succeed. SumUp, which started with a single card reader, was rapidly expanding into a diverse range of payment solutions, including Invoices, Gift Cards, and Payment Links.
Debitoor continued operating independently, focusing on its web and mobile apps, until 2019, when SumUp brought me on board to integrate Invoices into its ecosystem.
The Problem
By 2020, we successfully launched the SumUp Invoices web and mobile apps (iOS & Android), generating revenue through online payment fees. Meanwhile, Debitoor continued operating independently, relying on subscription-based revenue.
Supporting both Debitoor and SumUp added significant complexity across support, product, and engineering, as teams had to navigate two different ecosystems.
In 2021, we decided to sunset Debitoor to streamline efforts and provide a more integrated experience by focusing entirely on SumUp Invoices. However, this raised a key question: How could we continue serving Debitoor merchants while retaining subscription revenue?
Migration Launch & Insights
We officially launched the Debitoor-to-SumUp migration on March 2, 2022.
Key Insights (as of April 23, 2022):
โข Over 12,000 users successfully migrated to SumUp, exceeding expectations in both engagement and retention.
โข More than 50% of Debitoor users who accessed the app chose to migrate.
โข Customer support inquiries were significantly lower than expected:
ย ย Only 27% of migrated users and 0.7% of eligible users reached out for assistance.
ย ย The Customer Support team initially expected 60-70% of users to require help.
โข Users could easily contact support via Intercom chat, yet the lower-than-expected inquiries suggest a smooth transition experience.
